Fusion Events
One of the aims of Preston Community Network is to build cohesion, promote equality and diversity and nuture harmonious relationships and a sense of belonging for all in our local communities.
Our annual Fusion events bring people of different communities, cultures, backgrounds, religions and ages together to network, share experiences, learn from each other socialise.
Our latest Fusion event, The Lives of Others, held in September 2009 was funded by Acorn grants and was attended by about 50 people. We looked at how prejudice effects members of our local community who might be seen as 'different' and the abuse and hostility they often face as a result. We found out about the effects of hate-crime, had workshop discussions based around the everyday experiences of a trans-gender woman and two Muslim women who choose the wear the niqab, and Gypsy, Traveller and Roma communities.
A DVD of the event is now available on request....
